EVENTS

LGS and Rock and Wrap it will be collecting feminine products for women living in shelters! They are asking students to use their extra meal swipes to purchase these products at the C-store from May 9th to the 20th. They will also be placing boxes in the residence hall to collect  any leftover bottles of shampoo, conditioners and body wash from the students moving out of the residence halls. These products will be donated to people living in shelters. If you would too would like to contribute you are welcome to buy feminine products at the C-store to donate, or bring in toiletries and drop them off in SCB123A or the LGS office in Alumnae Hall.

ANNOUNCEMENTS

The last Chairs' Meeting of the semester will take place on Wednesday, May 11 at 1:00 in the Campbell Lounge Room 1
 
FACULTY AND STUDENT NEWS
 
Orion Duckstein  (Dance) It has been a great semester in the dance department. We finish the semester with a showcase of student works with 2 performances this weekend: Saturday at 2 and 7 in the Olmsted Theater. Last week we had a master class with former American Ballet Theater principal dancer Sascha Radetsky.


Kermit Frazier
(English)  Kermit Frazier (English)  is  pleased to say that his play, "Modern Minstrelsy," was named one of the 54 finalists (out of 1450 submissions) for this summer's Eugene O'Neill National Playwrights Conference. You can access a description here: comments.    Meanwhile, plans are underway to have a reading of the play in November at the AU PAC with professional actors and AU performing arts students.


PriyaWadhera,(Languages Literatures and Cultures) has been invited to deliver her paper called “Des repas noirs : Dark Tablescapes from Huysmans to Proust and Perec” in a panel called “Proustian Landscapes" at the 42nd annual Nineteenth-Century French Studies colloquium to be held at Brown University in the Fall of 2016.

Justyna Widera (Chemistry )A group of students from Dr. Widera's group (Chemistry ) will present their research at the 64th Annual Undergraduate Research Symposium organized by American Chemical Society NY Student Activities Committee this Saturday May 7th at Lehman College:Donald Wunder - "Studying the porosity of polyindole."
Sophia King - "Phototelectrochemical studies of a novel catalyst for the detection of phenolic compounds."
Diana Chaykina - " Electrochemical and photoelectrochemical investigations of GC/PIn-5-COOH/CdS/Tyrosinase system for the
catalysis of redox reactions in phenolic compounds."
Rochile Khan and Le Nguyen are going to help during the symposium as moderators.
